When the weight of the world comes creeping in, the thought of simply resting may seem unthinkable, if not impossible. Yet was it not our Savior who slept in a boat while a storm raged overhead (Mark 4:38)? In that light, the impossible suddenly becomes possible. Rest is always accessible through the Spirit that dwells within us—if we are willing to lighten our loads. Continue reading “Lighten Your Load”
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Notice what “the peace of God” does for you. It will “guard” your mind. From what? Acting impulsively, acting selfishly, or acting maliciously. Acting in any way that will result in loss rather than gain – and regret rather than joy. Continue reading “Let Peace Be Your Guard”

Life is found in love. Many studies have shown that all living things respond to love. Children flourish in loving homes. Wounded adults begin to heal and thrive simply by having someone love and believe in them. Even plants will flourish if spoken to with kindness rather than hate or indifference. Webster’s defines “shame” as a “feeling of guilt, regret, or sadness that you have because you know you have done something wrong.” It is also “the ability to feel guilt, regret, or embarrassment, dishonor or disgrace.” Shame can become so familiar, almost like an old friend. You know that old friend who your mom told you wasn’t a good influence but you didn’t listen. You look at that old friend and memories of a different time and a different you start to surface. It’s the “before Christ” you, and it isn’t pretty. All of the sudden you are haunted by the shame of your past and it’s crippling. At some point, we have all wrestled with shame. Even the most mature believer can fall prey to shame. I know because it recently happened to me. Continue reading “Removing the Root of Shame”

I recently had a conversation with the Father regarding the season of life I’ve found myself in. I confessed that I was finding this season challenging because it seemed like He had me spending so much time and energy focusing on myself and my life. Logically, I understand why; I’ve spent most of my life so focused on caring for others, that there are many areas of my life that are in ruins. I most certainly need the restoration that God is bringing! Continue reading “The Message of Restoration”
In my desire to always have a heart of repentance, my constant prayer to be cleansed, my cry to be transformed more into Jesus’ image, and by my intentional choice to remain watchful of how I live and represent my God – even in doing all that, I may come upon something that rears its head. Something that I thought was out of the way – healed and dealt with. Another layer of my soul has revealed something that is still present from events of the past that are in need of attention. As I bring these things to the Lord, He is faithful to continue to work on these layers of my inner being. He’s ever so careful and gentle in dealing with me one layer at a time.
