Enjoy the Dance

“Dance with Me” by Meghan Williams of Dyed4you Art

{dream} I was dancing in the arms of my Beloved. There was such joy and peace as we swayed back and forth to the music and focused on our love for one another. At some point, the thought came to me that, in real life, I didn’t know how to slow dance.

Suddenly, that concern about not being able to dance caused my feet to stumble as we danced. My feet felt like they were getting all tangled. And yet, the Beloved kept leading us in the dance as if nothing were wrong! I didn’t stumble or fall over, and our dance seemed as beautiful as before. So I just focused on the music and our love for one another.

Now and then, my thoughts would slip, and I would worry about my steps and stumble. But as soon as I remembered where my focus should be, my feet righted themselves. Eventually, I realized my steps didn’t matter, and that worrying about them only detracted from enjoying the dance with my Beloved.

I had this dream early in my prophetic experiences with the LORD, and it comes to my mind frequently as I continue to walk with Him. In the dream, the Beloved of our souls appeared as a TV character named Dante. “Dante” means “enduring” or “steadfast.” I knew that Dante symbolized God as our faithful leader in this dance called life.

I think about how easy it was to dance with Him. Even in the dream, I sensed that the music we danced to was the frequency of our love, the exquisite harmony that arises when we find oneness with God. It was easy to be with God—to simply exist. And yet, I stumbled when I was tempted to worry, and my focus shifted to what I was doing or not doing. To this day, I am still in awe of how the Beloved kept us perfectly steady in our dance no matter how many times I lost focus and stumbled. He is so faithful!

This dream and its symbolism never get old for me because life with God is one big, beautiful dance. We were created to live and move and have our being in Him (Acts 17:28). Our natural state is to exist in oneness in Him, and He desires that it would be as simple as breathing for us.

So why should we worry about what we’re doing or how we’re performing? There is no audience. There is just the Beloved, and we bring Him great joy by dancing with Him! He is the Shepherd of our souls. Through the promptings of His Spirit, He leads us in His paths of righteousness. He will faithfully guide us along our journey here on earth and throughout eternity. We might as well let go and enjoy the dance.

Psalm 121:3-4 (NIV) He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber;indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV) Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Acts 17:28 (NKJV) “for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’”
